James Westling

Hello, and thank you for visiting my website! My name is James Westling and I am the lead play-by-play announcer for Rocking M. Media, the largest locally owned media company in the state of Kansas. I have over a decade of radio and television play-by-play experience at various levels, including NCAA DI, and NCAA DII.

I serve as the radio play-by-play “voice” of the syndicated Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Radio Network, which can be heard in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.  It’s also my pleasure to contribute as a fill-in radio play-by-play announcer for Kansas State University, and Learfield Sports.

My television play-by-play experience includes ESPN+, ESPN3, and FloSports TV. I have broadcast NCAA DI men’s basketball, DI women’s soccer, and small college football via the aforementioned networks. I am also a two-time winner of 1st place play by play from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, in 2017 and 2016.

Hired in April 2009, my full time position is Operations Manager for Rocking M. Media’s seven station cluster in Salina, Kansas. I also work in the Rocking M. Media sales department as an account executive, handling both local direct and agency accounts. In 2015, I worked with the league commissioner to spearhead the launch of the KCAC Radio Network, which features eight affiliate stations.

I was born and raised in Topeka, Kan. and graduated from Washburn Rural High School. I then attended Kansas State University and was the Sports Director for KSDB Manhattan, the on campus K-State student station, from 2007-2008.

I graduated from Kansas State University in 2008 with a B.S. in Mass Communications and a minor in Leadership Studies.

My hobbies include spending time with my family (I’m married with two children, and a dog!), lifting weights, playing basketball, reading, working on our home, and catching up on my favorite TV shows.
